Deputy FM, UN special envoy converse on the phone

Tehran, Dec 25, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian reviewed latest developments in Syria in a telephone conversation with UN Special Envoy to Syria Stephan de Mistura on Friday.


Touching upon international negotiations on Syria, Amir Abdollahian reiterated that UN should play a pivotal role in Syria national reconciliation talks.

He also emphasized the need for taking a realistic approach by the world community in tackling terrorism and following up the political trend in Syria simultaneously.

'Syrian crisis could be settled once the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Syria is respected,' he added.

The UN representative, for his part, appreciated Iran's constructive and effective role in Vienna and New York negotiations.

'Respecting Syrian people's viewpoints, safeguarding the unity and territorial integrity of Syria are considered as principles of the United Nation,' de Mistura added.

Touching upon the participation of all influential countries in Vienna and New York meeting on Syria, he expressed hope that intra-Syrian talks could be held by the end of this month.
