First VP in Turkmenistan for neutrality, peace conf.

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) – The Iranian Vice President Es’haq Jahangiri, heading a high ranking delegation, will be attending ‘The policy of neutrality: international cooperation for peace, security and development’ in Ashgabat today.

The international conference on the topic ‘The policy of neutrality: international cooperation for peace, security and development’ will mark the 20th anniversary of the recognition by the international community of the legal status of permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan which falls on December 12.

70 delegations comprising high-ranking representatives of various countries, international organizations as well as the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon will be participating in the event.

Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi and Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi are accompanying First Vice-President Es’hagh Jahangiri on this one-day visit to Ashgabat.

On 12 December 1995 the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted the Resolution on the Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan.

Turkmen neutrality model assumes that contemporary international law is the law of peace and that constantly a neutral state must adhere to its status not only in wartime, but also in peacetime.
