Petition to ban Trump for anti-Muslim remarks gains over 26,500 signatures

A petition to ban US presidential candidate Donald Trump from the United Kingdom over his allegedly anti-Muslim rhetoric has gained over 26,500 signatures in just a few hours by Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The petition, launched Tuesday, has 26,674 signatures and needs a total of100,000 tobe considered bythe UK parliament. The government has torespond toaction sinceit gained more than10,000 signatures.
"The signatories believe Donald J Trump should be banned fromUK entry. The UK has banned entry tomany individuals forhate speech. The same principles should apply toeveryone who wishes toenter the UK," the petition reads.
"If the United Kingdom is tocontinue applying the 'unacceptable behaviour' criteria tothose who wish toenter its borders, it must be fairly applied tothe rich aswell aspoor, and the weak aswell aspowerful."

Trump has made numerous controversial statements aboutMuslims duringhis presidential campaign.

On Monday, the presidential hopeful urged the United States tostop the arrivals ofall Muslims untila counterterrorism plan was established. The comments stirred upwidespread condemnation.

Thousands ofpeople inthe United Kingdom have signed a petition calling onRobert Gordon University (RGU) inAberdeen, Scotland, tostrip Trump ofhis honorary degree afterhe made the inflammatory comments.
