Velayati describes President Bashar Assad as Iran's redline

Tehran, Dec 5, IRNA -- Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, underlined that Syrian President Bashar Assad is Iran's redline, and said Iran is duty-bound to remove the tensions created between Russia and Turkey.

'Bashar's government is the legal government and the people voted to him and elected him less than two years ago,' Velayati said, reiterating that President Assad is Iran's redline in Syria.

He underlined that Iran is duty-bound to reduce the tensions between Russia and Turkey, and said, 'It is not rightful that tensions to be piled up.'

Velayati pointed to Iran's influential role in Syria, and said, 'If the Islamic Republic of Iran had not helped the Syrian government, it would have been toppled; Iran stood up with firmness' and now other countries have come to help the Syrian government.
