Draft resolution on PMD case closure to be discussed monday: Iranian diplomat

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian diplomat said the Monday session of a joint commission between Iran and the Group 5+1 is going to discuss a draft resolution, based on which the IAEA Board of Governors will close a case on the so-called possible military dimensions (PMD) of Tehrans nuclear program.

The joint commission, tasked with supervising the implementation of a nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), is scheduled to hold an official session in Vienna, Austria, on Monday, Hamid Baeedinejad, the director general for political and international affairs at Irans foreign ministry told IRIB.

He said the joint commissions expert-level meetings, which have been ongoing since December 4, will still continue in the Austrian capital.

The commission has been formed to oversee the process of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear agreement between Iran and the sextet.

Baeedinejad expressed the hope that the Monday session of the joint commission would be able to take the necessary decisions for the implementation of the JCPOA on the basis of the results of the expert-level meetings.

He underlined that one of the main subjects of Monday meeting will be a draft resolution that the Group 5+1 will propose to pave the way for the International Atomic Energy Agencys Board of Governors to close the PMD case once and for all.

According to Baeedinejad, the draft resolution will be prepared under consultation and direct dialogue with Iran.

He finally expressed the confidence that the IAEA Board of Governors would unanimously pass a final resolution on the closure of the PMD case.

Back on July 14, known as the Finalization Day, Iran and the six countries finalized the text of the JCPOA, which will terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran after taking effect.

On the same day, Iran and the UN nuclear agency also signed a Road-map that commits the IAEA to finishing its investigations about Irans nuclear activities and submit a report to the Board of Governors by December 15.

The IAEA has been given the role of verifying Irans commitments under the JCPOA.
