First ever female ambassador after Islamic Revolution named

Tehran, Dec 5, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday announced the appointment of former foreign ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham, to head the Malaysian mission, as the first ever female ambassador after the Islamic Revolution of Iran.

This should be regarded as manifestation of capabilities of Iranian females, Rouhani pointed out during a meeting with Iran's new ambassadors to Senegal, Thailand, the Philippines, Belgium, Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Sri Lanka and Malaysia in Tehran on Saturday.

Active presence of women in social, sporting and administrative affairs is a successful and positive move and the recent appointment of the Iranian female truly indicates that genders have nothing to do with capabilities and eligibilities which are the yardsticks in carrying out grave responsibilities, said President Rouhani.
