Envoy: Iran biggest victim of chemical weapons

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA -- Iranian Ambassador to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Alireza Jahangiri voiced concern over non-membership of Israel in disarmament agreements, including the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Iran is the biggest victim of chemical weapons, Jahangiri said, the Iranian Embassy in the Netherlands reported.

He pointed to the international concerns with regard to security threats caused by Israel, and said, Chemical-armed countries need to meet the set deadlines on the complete elimination of their stockpiles.

Jahangiri also praised the OPCW for the establishment of an international network to support the victims of chemical weapons.

Iran calls on all OPCW member-states to do their best to exert pressure on the Zionist regime and and some OPCW non-member states to join the convention of prohibition of chemical weapons, he added.
