Shiraz, Pécs to become sisters

TEHRAN, Dec. 01 (MNA) – Iran’s city of Shiraz and Hungary’s Pécs will become sister cities and cooperate in the fields of culture, science and technology, the mayor of Shiraz announced.

The Mayor of Shiraz Alireza Pak Fetrat said that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is inked between the two cities which is based on expanding cooperation in fields of urban economy, science and technology, infrastructure, investment and trade, culture, art and sports. It was signed in Pécs in the presence of Iran’s ambassador to Hungary and the mayors of both the cities.

Pointing out to the cultural, scientific and historical capacities of both the cities, he said: “The presence of Iranian students in Pécs should indeed boost cultural interactions. The city of Shiraz is fully prepared to interact with the Hungarian city.”

Thanking Iran’s ambassador to Hungary Morshed Zadeh for his company, the mayor added that Shiraz should be Europe and Hungary’s first tourist destination.

The mayor of Pécs Zsolt Páva, for his part, said that Iran-Hungary’s ties have always been friendly and based on mutual respect.

The cities of Shiraz and Pécs enjoy cultural commonalities, he added and said: “We are keen to establish official ties between the two cities.”
