Envoy: Tehran in talks with Moscow to purchase Sukhoi Superjet 100

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russia is mulling to sell its Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger planes to Iran in the near future, Russia's Consul General in Rasht Maxim Baranov announced on Monday.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart have held talks in this regard (about Iran's purchase of Sukhoi passenger planes from Russia)," Baranov said in a meeting with Iran's Gilan provincial officials in the Northern city of Rasht.

He, meantime, pointed to President Putin's recent visit to Iran, and said, "During President Putin's visit to Iran several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed and their implementation will help broaden ?ooperation between the two countries further."

In August, Iranian Vice President for Science and Technology Sourena Sattari announced that three Iranian airliners had conducted negotiations with Russians to buy "Sukhoi Superjet 100" passenger planes.

"Superjet 100 is a joint product of Boeing and Airbus aircraft manufacturing companies and 80 percent of its parts are made by Russians," Sattari said.

He said Iran's Kish Air, Zagros, and Caspian airline companies have been in talks with the Russians over the purchase of the modern airliner.

The Sukhoi super jet is the first new airliner Russia has developed since the fall of the Soviet Union in early 1990s.
