Rafsanjani says will run for Assembly of Experts

Tehran, Nov 24, IRNA – Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Wednesday that he will run for Assembly of Experts late February 2016.

He told a groups of university students ‘God willing I will come to the Assembly of Experts election’.

‘The March elections are one of the most decisive election in history of Islamic Revolution,’ he added.

The spokesman for Iran’s Guardian Council Nejatollah Ebrahimian said that democratic elections for Iranian parliament will take place on February 26, 2016.

The election for Assembly of Experts, an overarching body which supervises Iran’s leadership, will come on the same day.

After the Islamic revolution of 1979, Iran has organized more than 30 votes at the national level. People are expected to cast their ballots in the next elections to pick representatives of their constituencies for a four-year term in the Majlis.

The new 290-seat legislature is scheduled to convene in the second half of 2016.

Members of the Assembly of Experts are elected every eight years.
