Rise of ISIL 'boomerang effect' of Arab spring

Milorad Dodik, the president of Republika Srpska, one of the two administrative entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina claims that the rise of terrorists is the direct result of Arab spring protests.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The rise of terrorists is the direct result ofArab spring protests, Milorad Dodik, the president ofRepublika Srpska, one ofthe two administrative entities inBosnia and Herzegovina, told Sputnik Serbia.

"The countries that have imported various springs and wars are now dealing witha boomerang effect. One feels sorry forthe innocent victims, they have nothing todo withbig politics," Dodik said.

The Arab Spring revolutionary demonstrations broke outacross the Middle East in2010-2011. They have also been classified as "color revolutions," together witha series ofregime changes caused byprotests inseveral post-Soviet republics in2000s.

Last month, the speaker ofthe upper house ofRussian parliament Valentina Matvienko warned atan Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting inGeneva againstthe illegal backing ofarmed groups tooverthrow legitimate governments throughthe so-called color revolutions and imposing democratic principles withouttaking intoaccount national and cultural characteristics.

Matvienko named the emergence ofthe ISIL jihadist group inIraq, Syria and other Middle East and North African countries asan outcome ofthese "short-sighted" policies.

She stressed the role ofthe Baghdad Information Center coordinating intelligence betweenRussia, Iraq, Syria and Iran incountering ISIL advances.

ISIL radicals are notorious fortheir violent and brutal tactics. They have claimed responsibility forthe November 13 terrorist attacks inParis that killed 129 and injured over350 people.

"The world is not giving a sufficiently adequate response tothe threat of terrorists. The Europe ofopen borders is apparently not able todeal withnumerous challenges, including this one. The Schengen Agreement is atrisk," Milorad Dodik also warned.

According toDodik, over350 Bosnia and Herzegovina residents have joined the ranks ofISIL radicals, while about23 percent ofMuslims inthe country are underthe influence of terrorists.

"Naturally, not all Muslims have come underthe influence ofradical ideology," Dodik said, adding, however, that a conflict betweenthe Christian and Islamic civilizations is nonetheless very apparent.

The Bosnian Serb politician stressed that the EU open border project and the unified EU policy is failing because ofthe rise ofISIL and other terrorists and the resulting influx ofrefugees fromthe Middle East.

"I cannot say that I am a convinced pessimist, butI no longer believe inthe Europe that was demonstrated several years ago," Dodik told Sputnik Serbia.

Over 710,000 migrants arrived inthe European Union duringthe first nine months of2015, according tothe EU border agency Frontex.

The migrant crisis that Europe is currently facing was sparked byconflicts inthe Middle East, particularly incivil-war-torn Syria, which has been struggling withthe rise ofISIL militants.
