Zarif demands global unity against terrorism following Paris attacks

Tehran, November 14, The Iran Project-Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif strongly condemned the Paris terrorist attacks, urging international consensus and unity in dealing with global terrorism.

Speaking to reporters before heading to Syria talks in Vienna on Saturday morning, Zarif said that Islamic Republic of Iran in strongest terms condemns the terrorist attacks and atrocities against the people of France. He also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people and government of France in this moment of sorrow.

"We have always stated that we need to forge an international consensus and unity in dealing with this very dangerous phenomenon. We have always said that terrorism and extremism cannot be an asset for anybody. There are liabilities for this region, there are threats for this region and we hope that all international players who are now gathered in Vienna and I am going to be joining them soon will act together and unit against this very dangerous global phenomenon," Zarif added elsewhere in his remarks.

Referring the President's Rouhani trip to Europe, Zarif said "we decided after the consultation with Italian foreign minister that the best time to visit Italy, Vatican and France may be in near future. Today, we need to focus all of our attention on how to combat terrorism and thats why instead of Rome I will be departing to Vienna to participate in the meeting on Syria."
