Tehran, Moscow proceed with Iran's Fordo nuclear facility reconstruction

Russia and Iran have made progress in rebuilding Iran's Fordo fuel enrichment plant to produce stable isotopes, Russia's atomic energy corporation Rosatom announced on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According tothe press release, Rosatom's international relations officer Nikolay Spasskiy and deputy head ofRussia's environmental, technological, and nuclear oversight service Aleksey Ferapontov met withthe head ofIran's Atomic Energy Organization (IAEO) Ali Akbar Salehi onNovember 11-12, Rosatom said. They also met Iran's head ofnuclear regulation Naser Rastkhah.

"Questions ofimplementing a joint comprehensive plan ofaction was discussed indetail, asprovided forby the UN Security Council Resolution 2231. We looked intoapproaches torestructuring the Fordo site forstable isotope production. Signs ofreal progress were evident," Rosatom's statement read.

Iran is currently expecting an inspection bythe International Atomic Energy Agency overits adherence tothe P5+1 deal onits nuclear program. Iran's relief frommultinational sanctions bythe United Nations, the Untied States and the European Union is subject tothe inspection's results. Rebuilding the Fordo enrichment facility is stipulated intheagreement withP5+1 group ofinternational mediators onIran's peaceful use ofnuclear energy.
