President postpones trip to Europe

Tehran, Nov 14, IRNA - After shocking terrorist incidents in France on Friday night, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has decided to postpone his trip to Europe.

France was rocked by multiple, near simultaneous attacks on entertainment sites in and around Paris yesterday evening that killed at least 120 people.

Speaking in a TV program on Saturday morning, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said that President Rouhani's trip to three European countries including Italy, Vatican and France has been postponed.

Zarif said he has discussed latest regional and international developments with his Italian counterpart by phone on Saturday morning.

Foreign minister pointed to the last night terrorist attacks in France and emphasized the urgency of international coordination against terrorism.

'It is better now to focus on fighting terrorism and President Rouhani's trip to Europe will happen in near future,' he added.

President Rouhani was scheduled to head to Italy and France from Saturday for the first visit of an Iranian leader to Europe in a decade, as ties thaw after Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers.

Rouhani was expected to meet Italian officials and Pope Francis on Saturday and Sunday and to visit Paris on Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman on Saturday also strongly condemned the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that killed over 120 people.

Hossein Jaber Ansari in a statement sympathized with the bereaved families of victims and the French people and government on the sad occasion.
