Russia underlines Iran's key role in resolving Syria crisis

TEHRAN (FNA)- Russian Ambassador to Tehran Levan Jagarian stressed Iran's important role in the settlement of the regional problems, specially Syria.

"Iran is a key player in the region and Russia has continuously and emphatically announced that Tehran's involvement in the settlement of Syria crisis is a must," Jagarian told Inerfax.

He said that Tehran-Moscow cooperation on Syria will undoubtedly continue.

The Russian envoy also said that the nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers has opened up new horizons for Tehran-Moscow cooperation in various fields.

Jagarian added that the Russian energy companies have also become activated sooner than Western companies to expand relations with Iran and the claims of any delay on the part of the Russians in that respect are not true.

He noted that recent visit of Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak to Tehran and the talks that members of the Russian delegation held with their Iranian counterparts testify to this reality.

In relevant remarks late October, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in the town of Sochi called for Iran's greater role in resolving the Syrian crisis.

"I believe that there will be no success without Iran's more participation in helping to resolve the Syrian crisis," President Putin said during the meeting in the Russian resort town.

The Russian president and the Iranian parliament speaker discussed bilateral ties, and underlined the need to make use of the opportunities for the expansion of relations.

President Putin and Larijani both delivered speech in the final day of the meeting of Valdai International Discussion Club in Sochi.
