Iran role model of Islamic Ummah unity: Russian grand Mufti

Moscow, Nov 4, IRNA -- Head of Russia's Mufti Council Ravil Gainutdin said that Iran serves as the best role model for world Islamic Ummah unity to address the current problems.

He made the remarks in a meeting on Wednesday with Iran's Justice Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi, who is currently in Moscow to attend the Eighth meeting of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

He also said that the two countries' ties are improving, making the Russian Muslims happier.

Removal of sanctions following implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will provide further opportunities in line with promoting the two countries' cooperation.

Gainutdin also said that many there are many grounds for Tehran-Moscow cooperation which should be used to get the two nations further closer.

Pour-Mohammadi, for his part, conveyed President Hassan Rouhani's congratulation to the Russian grand Mufti and Muslims on the inauguration of Grand Mosque, saying that he is interested in meeting.

Currently, Tehran-Moscow ties are at its highest level and they have closer views regarding many regional and global developments.

Hailing Moscow's cooperation in Iran-G 5+1 nuclear talks, he said that the two countries have reached the conclusion that they can meet many of their needs in collaboration with each other.

The Iranian minister also referred to psychological war against Islam and divine religions, saying that irreligiosity is spreading and world powers use it to attain their goals.

Pour-Mohammadi urged Muslims to neutralize plots through unity.

During one-week meeting of United Nations Convention Against Corruption attended by 170 delegations from different countries including Iran various topics including anti-corruption cooperation and fighting administrative corruption were discussed.

Over three million Muslims are living in Russia, constituting a major portion of the country's 20-million religious community.
