UK envoy to UN expects progress over Syrian issue in coming weeks

UK Parliament Representative to the United Nations Matthew Rycroft expects that it will be possible to make progress on the settlement of the Syrian crisis in the coming weeks.



UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) On October 29-30, top diplomats froma number ofstates, including Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey and Germany met inthe Austrian capital ofVienna fortalks dedicated tothe settlement ofthe Syrian four-year civil war.
"Assad must go. It is a part ofthe negotiations which needs tocome aspart ofthe political process. We don't have that negotiations going on, because the parts are too far apart We have been looking abouthow we can push these differences. I think that was some important progress inthat regard inVienna last week, and we hope that there will be more progress inthat regard inthe weeks tocome," Rycroft said.

The participants ofthe Vienna talks reached mutual understanding onSyrian issue, the necessity todefeat extremist groups, assist refugees, and the importance ofthe Syrian people todecide onthe future oftheir state.

Syria has been inthe state ofcivil war sincea 2011 political collapse, withgovernment forces fighting opposition factions and terrorist organizations, including ISIL and the Nusra Front.
