US, Europe increasingly relying on 'unreliable' Russia and Iran

In search of stability in the Middle East, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Washington's European allies are increasingly relying on countries the US once considered unreliable and 'only undermining stability' - Iran and Russia.

Jay Solomon wrote inhis article that afterthe meeting ofthe Middle East Quartet, comprising EU, UN, Russia and the US, the European and American side made it clear that all the efforts toresolve the crisis inSyria, Iraq and Yemen, will not materialize if Moscow and Tehran do not take part init.

Thus, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, said that Russia and Iran may take steps toresolve the instability inthe Middle East, if they can tune the Syrian President Bashar Assad and the Syrian government forthe process oftransferring the political power.

The head ofUS diplomacy, John Kerry, inturn, reacted positively tothe news that one ofthe main US allies inthe region and a member ofthe Western coalition againstISIL Jordan will share intelligence data and coordinate its military activities withRussia and Iraq.

It might even prove tobe quite beneficial foreverybody, WSJ quoted John Kerry assaying afterthe Quartet meeting.

The inclusion ofMoscow and Tehran ina dialogue withWashington and Brussels could also mean that the balance offorces inthe Middle East is changing, the newspaper added.

What happens inSyria will be key tothe new Middle Eastern order. The immediate benefit may seem worth it. But overtime, the U.S. will find it more difficult torally its partners and convey determination onother regional security issues, The Wall Street Journal quoted London-based analyst Emile Hokayem assaying.

Moreover, the safety system and the structure ofthe regional alliances that the United States created inthe Middle East overthe last 50 years is wearing offand that is prompting the Arab states tolook towardsRussia, the newspaper said.
