The Iranian government aims to uphold its obligations under the landmark nuclear deal swiftly, but much depends on Western counterparts, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) spokesman told British media.

LONDON (Sputnik) � Kamalvandi said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of�Action (JCPOA), reached between�six world powers last July, was a product of�intense negotiations dating as�far back as�2003-05.

"The government would like�to fulfill its commitment as�quickly as�possible, but�at the same time we are quite confident of�what the other side is going to�do," Behrouz Kamalvandi told the ITV broadcaster late Tuesday.

The AEOI spokesman said most ordinary Iranians hope for�the prompt lifting of�sanctions stipulated by�the JCPOA. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on�Tuesday he expected most of�the anti-Iran sanctions to�be lifted by�the end of�2015.

Under the deal, Tehran has agreed to�reduce its stock of�enriched uranium, decrease the number of�centrifuges in�the country and reconfigure a heavy-water reactor at�Arak. The deal's implementation is being overseen by�the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The European Union and the United States both adopted a legislative framework to�begin lifting anti-Iran sanctions on�October 18.
