Iran wants to be sure in parties' adherence to nuclear deal - AEOI

The Iranian government aims to uphold its obligations under the landmark nuclear deal swiftly, but much depends on Western counterparts, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) spokesman told British media.

LONDON (Sputnik) Kamalvandi said the Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA), reached betweensix world powers last July, was a product ofintense negotiations dating asfar back as2003-05.

"The government would liketo fulfill its commitment asquickly aspossible, butat the same time we are quite confident ofwhat the other side is going todo," Behrouz Kamalvandi told the ITV broadcaster late Tuesday.

The AEOI spokesman said most ordinary Iranians hope forthe prompt lifting ofsanctions stipulated bythe JCPOA. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said onTuesday he expected most ofthe anti-Iran sanctions tobe lifted bythe end of2015.

Under the deal, Tehran has agreed toreduce its stock ofenriched uranium, decrease the number ofcentrifuges inthe country and reconfigure a heavy-water reactor atArak. The deal's implementation is being overseen bythe International Atomic Energy Agency.

The European Union and the United States both adopted a legislative framework tobegin lifting anti-Iran sanctions onOctober 18.
