Irans top diplomat in London for talks on regional issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian left Tehran for London on Monday for talks on different regional and international issues.

The visit takes place upon invitation by the British Foreign Ministry.

In London he will discuss counter-terrorism and fighting against extremism.

Other issues, including refugees and regional developments are on the agenda of the Iranian diplomat.

This is the first official visit of an Iranian political delegation after re-opening of embassies in Tehran and London.

The British embassy in Iran reopened on August 23 after a 4-year closure.

Britains Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond attended a ceremony in Tehran to mark the reopening. It was the first visit by a British foreign secretary to Iran since 2003.

Simultaneously, Irans embassy in London also reopened.

The thaw in Iran-Britain relations follows finalization of a landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 on July 14.
