Parliament speaker: Irans decision on nuclear talks not hasty

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani rejected claims that the country has made a hurried decision over its recent nuclear agreement with six world powers, saying that Tehrans decision was based on long, intensive, and technical consultations.

Some think that the decision (on the implementation of the JCPOA- the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehrans nuclear energy program) was hasty and say why did you decide so quickly. This is while they (the negotiators) held talks for three years. So this was not a hasty decision, Larijani said in a conference on Resistance Economy on Monday.

The nuclear council, which was tasked with making decisions on the nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), held over 20 meetings on the issue, examining all aspects and directing each round of the nuclear talks, the parliamentarian noted.

He further pointed to some ups and downs in the nuclear talks with the Western side, saying that in some cases, the Iranian nuclear council had to change the path of the talks due to the countrys national interests.

Larijani made it clear that with the nuclear talks, Iran sought to develop peaceful nuclear technology and at the same time have the economic sanctions lifted.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran's nuclear program.

The nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Sunday was the so-called adoption day for the deal, which came 90 days after the two sides concluded their intensive negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna.

The Iranian parliament on October 13 voted to pass the details of a motion to implement the nuclear agreement.

The bill allows the Iranian administration to voluntarily implement its July 14 nuclear agreement with the world powers under certain conditions.
