Iran slams Daesh attack on Shia center in Saudi Arabia

Iran has condemned a terrorist attack by Daesh Takfiris on a religious center in Saudi Arabia, urging the international community to take action to put an end to foreign support for terrorists.

The persistence of extremist and inhumane measures by terrorists and the killing of defenseless people have given rise to a catastrophic situation, Irans Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Saturday.

It is necessary that the international community give higher priority to ending allkinds of support for Takfiri terrorist groups and take effective measures in this regard, she added.

Afkham also expressed her condolences to families of the victims of the terrorist attack.

On Friday, at least five people were killed after a Daesh Takfiri militant opened fire on a group of Shia Muslims attending a religious mourning ceremony in eastern Saudi Arabia.

According to Saudi media, nine people also sustained injuries in the armed attack on the religious center in the city of Saihat near the Qatif region of Saudi Arabias Eastern Province.

The Daesh Takfiri terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack in an online statement.

On the same day, another armed assault targeted a Shia mosque in the al-Anoud district of Dammam, the capital of Eastern Province. A foreign worker at the site was wounded in the incident.

Saudi security sources say both assailants in the Friday attacks were Saudi nationals.

Shortly after the attacks, people took to streets in Saihat to condemn the acts of terror against Shia Muslims.
