G5+1's turn to honor their commitments: IAEA envoy

Vienna, Oct 15, IRNA Iran's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi said on Thursday that Iran honored its commitments with good will and now it's the G5+1 countries' turn to keep their promises and close Iran's file in the UN atomic agency.

Najafi's comments came shortly after the IAEA issued a statement confirming Iran's cooperation with the agency over the outstanding issues.

'In the period to October 15, 2015, activities set out in the 'Road-map for the clarification of past and present outstanding issues regarding Irans nuclear program' were completed,' the IAEA said in its statement.

Under a road-map agreement reached between Iran and the IAEA, Iran had to provide by Thursday the cooperation necessary for the agency to complete an assessment of Iran's activities by Dec. 15.

Now the agency can present its final assessment of Iran nuclear file and close it forever, Najafi said.

He said that based on Iran nuclear deal with the six world powers, the G5+1 countries are expected to present a resolution in an extraordinary session of the IAEA Board of Governors in December which aims to close Iran nuclear file.

Najafi noted that closing Iran nuclear file paves the way for implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreed by Iran and world powers in July in Vienna.

As the UN Security Council approved Resolution 2231 terminating all the past anti-Iran UNSC resolutions, the previous resolutions against Iran by the IAEA Board of Governors also need to be terminated, Najafi said.
