Defense Min: Hopefully Russian role brings ‘drastic change’ into Syria
TEHRAN, Oct. 15 (MNA) – Iran’s defense minister has expressed hopes that Russian intervention in Syria will bring positive and drastic change to front lines against terrorism.

Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan who was receiving Admiral Sun Jianguo Deputy Chief of Staff for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy of China on Wednesday, said that Iranian and Chinese had political will enough to promote bilateral relations to a more dynamic cooperation; “improvement of defense cooperation between the two countries will contribute positively to the stability and peace in continental scale as Asia,” Dehghan added.

“The US invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan came to promise the native peoples of these countries with security and welfare; instead, it only fueled insecurity, sectarian violence, and terrorist extremists roaming these countries; the US and Saudi Arabian strikes in Yemen is condemned, and their misguided attempts had come to a strong barrier called Yemeni national willpower,” Dehghan told his guest.

He hailed Russian military intervention in Syria, hoping that interventions would bring a positive and drastic change in frontlines against terrorism.

Admiral Sun Jiangua, for his part, expressed gratitude for warm welcome by Iranian officials in his visit to Tehran and conveyed warm and sincere regards of the Chinese defense minister to Dehghan, and praised Iran’s ‘unique role and deep influence’ in the region thanks to its historically rooted culture and civilization; he reiterated his country’s main strategy as being protecting peace, stability, and regional and global security, believing that the strategy would only be practicable based on mutual respect between China and its foreign partners.

“In Yemen, China generally rejects double-standards, seeking hegemony, and defying the will of the country’s people by some countries; we believe that Beijing-Tehran cooperation will help our strategy to protect regional and global peace, and that military-defensive agreements should be soon come to implementation process,” said the admiral.
