Iran welcomes petchem cooperation with major Japan firms

TEHRAN Oct. 12 (Shana) Deputy Petroleum Minister for Petrochemical Industries Abbas Shari-Moqaddam said Iran is ready for cooperation with major Japanese companies in the field of petrochemical products.

Mitsubishi and Mitsui are equipped with the most advanced technologies in the petrochemical industry, CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) told Shana.

Considering the satisfactory background that the Japanese firms have in Irans petrochemical industry, they can enter our country in the post-sanction era, he added.

Shari-Moqaddam said that investment and technology transfer can pave the way for joint investment with the Japanese firms and that NIPC welcomes such ventures with the established international firms.

His comments were made few hours before Irans Petroleum Minister Bijan Zangeneh and visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida were going to meet here on Monday to discuss oil, gas, and petrochemical joint ventures following removal of sanctions.

On Sunday, Shari-Moqaddam and Senior Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Corporations Chemical Group, Takahisa Miyauchi, exchanged views on the possibility of the Japanese firms participation in Irans projects.

Iran as the holder of the largest combined gas and oil reservoirs is an appropriate country for Japanese investors, Miyauchi said.
