FLSmidth in partnership with Iran firm
The Denmark-based global cement major FLSmidth has reportedly teamed up with a local Iranian company to launch its business in Iran with an eye to penetrate into the regional markets.

FLSmidth has selected Irans Ehdas San'at Company as its representative for the implementation of projects and services in Iran.

To the same effect, the two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding that envisages cooperation in a variety of areas including sharing of knowledge as well as technical and economic cooperation.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in Tehran earlier this week by Ehdas San'at Managing Director Morteza Hashempour and FLSmidth Director Thomas Schulz, wrote the Global Cement a portal of news for the international cement industry.

Accordingly, Ehdas San'at has agreed to establish a close cooperation with FLSmidth in the field of producing related equipment and implementing new projects, as well as the renovation of existing cement plants in Iran.

The two companies have further agreed to cooperate in exporting cement to the regional countries.

On a related front, Hashempour has been quoted by the media as saying that the cooperation with the Danish cement player will involve projects to construct cement distribution centers in Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan.

Also, Shulz has been quoted by the media as saying that his company will share its expertise on the cement industry with Irans universities.

He expressed hope that his companys cooperation with Iran will soon witness a rapid expansion, specifically after the removal of anti-Iran sanctions as envisaged by the nuclear breakthrough achieved with the P5+1 in Vienna back in July.

Iran is the leading producer of cement in the Middle East and among the top 20 global producers of the crucial construction material in the world. It currently produces around 70 million tons per year of cement and this capacity is expected to increase to as high as 110 million tons per year in 2016.

Iran exports about a quarter of its total cement production to 24 countries and Iraq, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are its biggest clients.
