Rafsanjani urges checking growth of terrorism
Tehran, Oct 5, IRNA Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Monday that expansion of terrorism should be stopped worldwide.

Speaking to Croatian Parliament Speaker Josip Leko on Monday, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said diplomacy is better than bombardment.
'Terrorism is a virus which will sooner or later pollute other countries. Current conditions are not in favor of anybody. The world thinkers should impede expansion of the virus of terrorism,' said Rafsanjani, expressing pleasure with restoration of security to the Balkans and peaceful co-existence of followers of different religions in the regional countries.
'We did know that grounds are prepared for economic growth and expansion of the human and Islamic culture in the region. So, we established our relations after your and Bosnian independence.'
Recalling calamities of Serbian war and genocide, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said, 'That time we tried within the scope of our political potential on the hope that war conditions will end sooner and our relations will expand with the neighbors; though, that time certain powerful countries of the world created obstacles.'
Also referring to humanitarian measures of certain countries in sheltering the homeless refugees, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said, 'Perhaps your humanitarian move might have problems as well. However, the job is in nature praised by all human beings of any religion and nationality.'
Also providing a background of presence of several million refugees in eastern and western neighbors and even south of Iran and good relation of people and officials of Iran with them, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said perhaps based on political equations under present conditions, when unemployment is one of the most important problems of countries, acceptance of refugees might not have positive image.
'However, humanity rules to extend assistance to the homeless refugees, especially innocent women and children under hard conditions so that humanity will not witness their innocent death.'
Asked by the Croatian parliament speaker on prospects of security in the region and the world with respect to widening of the scope of activities of terrorists, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said, 'A profound care should be given to reasons of start of terrorist measures so that past mistakes are not repeated in offering any solution; otherwise the solution will not have any effect.'
Ayatollah Rafsanjani emphasized, 'For centuries, arrogance has captured and is plundering the raw materials, cheap workforce and unrivaled markets of the oppressed states under the pretext of colonialism and exploitation. Even in a little a bit far past, they developed their country by hard and laborious works of the slaves they had taken to their countries.'
He said mismanagement of the backward countries throughout history, especially recent years, had been one of the reasons for tough actions of the unhappy and unemployed youth of certain African and Asian states.
'When injustice, insecurity and unemployment are on the rise, the dissident youth will think of revenge and when having no access to officials, will embark on killing the innocent people and spark insecurity thrugh terrorism crimes and measures.'
The Expediency Council chairman also said if the west is really concerned over growth of terrorism, which will sooner or later threaten other countries by weapons of mass destruction, it should first of all keep the regions safe and strive for compensating for its historical justice for development and employment in the countries because many of those falling in trap of promises of the terrorist groups are desperate, unemployed and needed population.
He also emphasized taking swift and all-out measures to curb terrorists.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Rafsanjani welcomed expansion of Iran-Croatia relations and said Iran considers no limit for cooperation with Croatia and officials of the two countries should make plans for the purpose in different sectors.
