Eight Iranian universities among Times top 800

Eight Iranian universities have been ranked among the top 800 universities in the world, according to the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education World University Ranking.

The Times Higher Education (THE) magazine on Wednesday published its rankings, which have expanded to 800 institutions from 70 countries.

Eight Iranian universities to be included on this years top 800 list. They are:

 

Iran University of Science and Technology (401-500 rank group)
Sharif University of Technology (401-500 rank group)
Amirkabir University of Technology (501-600 rank group)
Isfahan University of Technology (501-600 rank group)
Tehran University of Medical Sciences (501-600 rank group)
Khaje Nasir Toosi University of Technology (601-800 rank group)
Shahid Beheshti University (601-800 rank group)
University of Tehran (601-800 rank group)
The highest ranked institution in the country is the Irans University of Science and Technology, placed in 401-500 rank group

According to the list, the top 10 world universities include California Institute of Technology (US), University of Oxford (UK), Stanford University (US), University of Cambridge (UK), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US), Harvard University (US), Princeton University (US), Imperial College London (UK), ETH Zrich Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Switzerland) and University of Chicago (US).

Among Asian countries China continues to dominate, while Japan and South Korea have fallen behind.

The National University of Singapore holds Asias number one spot (in 26th place) while Chinas two leading universities (Peking and Tsinghua) are firmly established in the worlds elite top 50 group at 42nd and joint 47th respectively.

Japan has two institutions in the top 200, University of Tokyo (43rd) and Kyoto University (joint 88th), while South Korea has four institutions in the top 200.

The top universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments

Previously, the list only included 400 universities from 41 countries. This years ranking is four times bigger than the top 200 list we published between 2004 and 2010, the World University Ranking editor Phil Baty said.
