Iran rejects distorted draft report on Yemen

New York, Oct 2, IRNA - Iran has rejected a draft report by the OIC Secretariat on Yemen saying it has evident distortions on roots of the crisis and the people's defense against Saudi-led military aggression on the war-hit country.

The meeting held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York was chaired by OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani.

Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi who led the Iranian delegation in the meeting said the report has ignored the human plight in the wake of the air attacks in Yemen.

'Such one-sided approaches, support to the aggression on Yemen and attacks on civilians and the country's infrastructures have failed in bringing peace and stability to the country,' he said.

He also said Iran has frequently tried to contribute to the settlement of the crisis and to bring together all parties to the crisis in Yemen in order to resume talks and political reconcilliation.

'However, such measures did not bear results because of the abstention of one party so that the war against the people of Yemen has continued,' Araqchi added.

'These are why Iran is not accepting the report by the OIC Secretariat under the title of the Contact Group. We believe OIC must take an impartial approach to the Yemen crisis.'

There is no military solution to the crisis in Yemen, he stressed, and all efforts should focus on finding a peaceful solution.
