Environment high priority, says VP

Karaj, Sept 28, IRNA One of the most crucial components in the sustainable development of any country is preserving the environment, says Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar.

'The protection of environment is high on the government agenda,' said Ebtekar on Monday while on a one-day trip to Alborz Province.

Ebtekar participated in the provincial administrative council and the working group on the air pollution and tiny aerial particles reduction in Karaj.

Referring to United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, the vice president said that the summit adopted 17 sustainable development goals.

'The SDGs are aimed at establishing the environment as one of the components in the sustainable development,' she said.

'World leaders have adopted SDGs to be achieved in the next 15 years.'

Our country is also in line with the United Nations efforts and everybody should do enough for the SDGs to be attained, Ebtekar said.

'Among the SDGs are healthcare, employment, protection of environment, consumption and production patterns, climate adaptation, civil hygiene and waste management,' she said.

The environmental issues of the country should be addressed through launching macro plans and policies in national and regional contexts, she said.

'President Hassan Rouhani's UN address on sustainable development laid one of the most significant bases for Iran's path toward the sustainable development and preservation of the environment.'
