Senior advisor: Mina tragedy not planned

Tehran, Sept 27, IRNA It is improbable that the tragic event happened in Mina was planned deliberately, senior advisor to the Supreme Leader said Sunday.

But, it is crystal clear that Thursday's Mina tragic event happened due to Saudi inefficiency and mismanagement, Major General Yahya Rahim-Safavi said.

On the sidelines of a local ceremony, Rahim-Safavi told reporters that the Saudi rulers are not even apologetic towards the Islamic nations.

He further criticized Saudi Arabia for not letting the Iranian officials be present on the scene for rescue operations or looking into the case of the Iranian Hajj pilgrims.

Due to the stampede in Mina during the Hajj rituals on Thursday, more than 2,000 Muslim pilgrims including 144 Iranians were killed and over 2,000 wounded, including 82 Iranians.

According to reports, 323 Iranian pilgrims have been listed missing.

The pilgrims were on way to jamar?t to perform Hajj rituals there. The Stoning of the Devil is part of the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

Muslim pilgrims fling pebbles at three walls called jamar?t, in the city of Mina just east of Mecca.

It is one of a series of ritual acts that must be performed during the Hajj pilgrimage.
