French utility looking to return to Iran

TEHRAN Sept. 23 (Shana) -- French utility Engie is weighing up the merits of investing in Iran once the sanctions are lifted, a senior official with the company told Shana.

"We are hopeful that everything will be done so that the sanctions can be lifted and we can come back in Iran where we worked in the past," said the official who asked to remainanonymoussaid on Tuesday after a Tehran meeting. "We are extremely happy about the recent developments in Iran after July 14 agreement."
Senior officials and corporate businessmen representing Iranian and French oil industry met on Tuesday to discuss investment opportunities in Irans post-sanction setting.

The French representatives constituted part of the 160-member delegation including Total and Technip who are headed by the agriculture minister and state minister for foreign commerce.

The roundtable happened two days after Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh and Totals President of Exploration and Production Arnaud Breuillac met on Sunday.

Engie is one of the largest natural gas companies in Europe and in the world and is active in engineering, power generation and natural gas chain, he said.
Before the sanctions, the company had a lot of talks and preparations for projects with Iranian companies including National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

"We see Iran as a great country with great natural reserves and great technical potentialities for development," he added. "It is also a key country for natural gas supply and we look forward to the possibility of buying some gas from Iran when conditions are met".

He said the company needs to understand how better the situation will evolve. "We are really hopeful that the sanctions are to be lifted, but we can start talking in order to be ready to work once the sanction are lifted."
