US drone strike leaves two dead in Yemens Marib: Local official

A US drone attack has killed two people in Yemens central city of Marib, a local official says.

Two members of al-Qaeda were killed when a missile from a US drone hit their vehicle in Marib on Tuesday, the unnamed official told AFP.

The US carries out airstrikes with assassination drones in Yemen and several other Muslim countries, including Pakistan and Afghanistan. Washington claims the drones target al-Qaeda militants, but local sources say civilians have been the main victims of the attacks.

The raids have continued alongside the Saudi military aggression against Yemen, which began in late March.

In their latest air raids, Saudi warplanes targeted residential areas in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, including a school in the Bani Hashish district, killing and wounding a yet unspecified number of people.

Over 70 people, including six children, were killed on Monday when Saudi fighter jets engaged in massive attacks on Sanaa and the provinces of Hajjah in the west, Saada in the northwest, and Ibb in the southwest of Yemen.

In response, Yemens Ansarullah fighters and allied army units continued their attacks on Saudi forces. Several Saudi soldiers were killed in separate attacks on Monday.

Saudi Arabia began its aggression against Yemen on March 26 without a UN mandate in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh.
