Iranian taekwondo fighters have demonstrated commendable displays of athletic skills and strength at the 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series 2 in Turkey, collecting a total of four medals, including a gold.
On Sunday, Abolfazl Yaqoubi settled for the bronze medal in the seniors male minus 68-kilogram weight category after conceding defeat to Mexican taekwondo practitioner Saul Gutierrez Macedo in a bout staged at the Yasur Dogu Sport Arena in the northern Turkish city of Samsun.
Iran’s Mahdi Khodabakhshi snatched the gold medal in the seniors male minus 80-kilogram weight division on Saturday after his Ivorian opponent Cheick Sallah Cisse did not show up for the final encounter of the category.
The bronze medal in this weight class went to Iran’s 26-year-old taekwondo fighter Masoud Hajizavareh and Italian athlete Roberto Botta.
The achievements came a day after South Korea’s Jo Cholho overcame Iranian competitor Sajjad Mardani in the final bout of the seniors male over 80-kilogram weight category to pocket the gold medal.
Germany’s Volker Wodzich and Dmitriy Shokin, a representative from Uzbekistan shared the bronze medal in this division.
The 2015 WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series 2 competitions started in the northern Turkish city of Samsun on September 18, and finished on September 20.
The tournament brought together 234 male and female taekwondo fighters from 50 countries, including Azerbaijan, Britain, Canada, China, Germany, Iran, Italy, the Ivory Coast, Mexico, Spain and Turkey.
