Iranian commander sees powers' air bases as cause of turmoil in region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli said the air bases set up by the trans-regional states in the region are a source of insecurity and turmoil.

"The trans-regional countries have established some air bases (in the region) without any permission and this move has produced no outcome but turmoil in the region," Esmayeeli said, addressing a ceremony in the Central city of Kashan on Friday.

Elsewhere, he referred to the daily flights of over 1,200 aircraft over the Iranian airspace, and said, "Under the conditions that the trans-regional states are hungry for collecting intelligence from Iran, we issue the highest number of warnings to the (military and spying) planes approaching our borders, while we provide safety and security for a large number of passing flights in our country's sky; In such a situation Iran enjoys the most secure sky in the Middle-East as admitted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)."

In relevant remarks last September, Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani said the destructive meddling of certain trans-regional countries had created major problems for Middle-East security.

Shamkhani said that presence of the US and other western states' troops in the region under the pretext of campaign against terrorism had escalated insecurity in region and had resulted in emergence of terrorist groups.

He further added that certain measures by the western governments about the Iraqi developments reveal that they were not sincere in their anti-terrorism slogan, and underlined that Iran was closely monitoring political, defense and security developments in the region as well as overt and covert attempts to change power balance in the Middle-East.

The official made clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran would do its utmost to prevent intervention of the hegemonic powers in the region.
