Afkham: PGCC final statement is baseless, unsubstantiated

Tehran, Sept 16, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Wednesday dismissed as baseless and unsubstantiated the final statement of the recent meeting of foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC).

Afkham said, Thats a matter of surprise that after the end of nuclear talks, only two or three neighboring states south of Iran raise their outrage under various pretexts against its positive regional consequences, trying to continue with the defeated policy of considering the Islamic Republic of Iran a threat.
She referred to change in tone of the recent PGCC statement against Iran and also to the allegations raised without any tangible evidence and provable token. She added that certain PGCC members, that used to hurl stones on the way during the talks, now are angry with diplomatic progress and consequences of Irans constructive and logical approach, on the hope that through raising repeated and worn-out charges, they can derail the process of global welcoming of dialogue and diplomacy or affect Iran determination for constructive engagement with the neighbors and Muslim countries of the region.
She added that repetition of claims on Iranian islands cannot harm and change historical and absolute realities and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran over the Iranian three islands.
Also referring to expansion of terrorism and extremism in the region and the threats emanating from it, Afkham advised the PGCC members to think of changing past vain methods, rather than insisting on destructive policies and trying to escalate regional tension and resorting to fruitless claims. She said the PGCC members are further recommended to give responsible reply to Iran approach of scaling down common threats, strengthening commonalties and ironing out points of difference through dialogue and cooperation.
