The legislators firmly defend Irans missile capability, said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Irans Parliament (Majlis).
He touched upon a statement issued by the MPs in support of Irans missile program, saying a recent UN resolution that endorsed an agreement between Iran and the P5+1 has no bearing on the countrys missile activities.
Resolution 2231 was unanimously approved by the UN Security Council on July 20, 21014 to endorse the agreement clinched between Iran and the six other countries over the Islamic Republics nuclear program.
On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 countries the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany finalized the text of the agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in the Austrian capital, Vienna.
Under the JCPOA, limits will be put on Irans nuclear activities in exchange for, among other things, the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.
Boroujerdi further referred to a recent statement issued by Iranian legislators in support of the countrys missile activities and said it serves as a response to comments made by certain US officials.
Some Washington authorities have said that a cap should pout put on Iran's missile activities.
As the Iranian Foreign Ministry has officially announced, said the senior lawmaker, Iran will press ahead with its missile program as the UN resolution is not applicable to Tehrans missile activities.
We approved whatever required to boost the countrys defense capabilities; and naturally, the countrys experts at the Defense Ministry and the Armed Forces act accordingly, so that they will be able to move the issue forward, Boroujerdi said.
