Iran welcomes EU investments, says tourism chief

Tehran, Sept 8, IRNA Iran welcomes all European contractors and investors who are interested to help develop Iran's tourism infrastructure, says the head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

'Iran has devised plans to improve and promote all-out ties with foreign countries and it seeks to attract maximum investments by domestic and foreign entities to develop its tourism infrastructures, including hotels, motels, guesthouses, roads, highways, airports and public transportation systems,' Masoud Soltanifar told a group of prominent Iranian and Spanish company owners, according to the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture on its website.

'Tourism development constitutes one of the priorities of the Islamic Republic,' said he.

'Iran's political stability, collective security, hospitable environment, low cost services, unique tourist, cultural, religious, artistic and natural attractions, combined with weather variety, could contribute to developing the tourism industry.'

Referring to the goals of Iran's 1404 Vision Plan, Soltanifar said in order to host 20 million tourists, as one of Iran's long-term goals, we need 300 three-star and five-star hotels.

'We need to build 30 hotels each year,' he said, 'And this will provide foreign investors with a good opportunity to help promote Iran's hotel industry.'

The Iranian-Spanish trade meeting took place recently at the office of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture.

The meeting was attended by some Iranian ministers and Spanish officials.
