Israel approach to Syrian, Palestinian Druze

Alwaght- Hazar, a Druzian village situated in southwestern Syria with a short distance from the occupied Golan Heights, has a population of 12000. About 3 percent of Syria's total population of around 23 million is estimated to be Druzian.

Most of them do not wish to get employed in the Syrian military, as a majority of them oppose the idea of serving in places other than their own; however, some of them oppose the Syrian govenment and do not accept it, but their numbers are relatively low .

The Druze are mainly of three types: loyal to the Syrian government, supporter of the opposition and neutral. In this regard, some incidents have happened to the Druze which got them involved in the domestic disputes of Syria.

In the meantime, the Israeli regime has been trying to take advantage of the situation, and make use of the Druze capacity to provoke them against the Resistance forces. For instance, two Druzian military in the Syrian army murdered their commander and took refuge in the al-Nusra Front; meanwhile, there were some news which suggested that people of the village are getting mobilized against al-Nusra Front and receive training from Hezbollah.

Recent Israeli air strikes in the area, indicate that a number of Hezbollah fighters were killed in the area. These incidents have even reached the 1948-palestinian territories, to the extent that some Druze from the city of Majdal Shams attacked an ambulance carrying some wounded al-Nusra forces to be treated in the occupied territories, and killed the wounded .

Concerning the Druze, the Zionist are faced with numerous issues, for instance if the Druze become dissatisfied, it might lead to the removal of the covenant based on which Druze gave their consent to do military service in the Israeli army, a treaty that has been called the "Blood Covenant".

In particular, in recent Knesset election in certain voting centers with a high population of the Druze which comprise about 10% of the Palestinian minority in 1948 occupied lands, less than 50 percent of them turned out in the election. One of the main reasons for this dissatisfaction lies in the Israeli regimes' breaking its promise about letting the Druze fully enjoy the advantages of citizenship if they perform military service.

Over the last years, the Druze population have realized the invalidity of the Israeli regime's promises, to the extent that Israelis have almost no place among the Arabs and Palestinians, and the Druze have come to the conclusion that "Blood Covenant" between them and the Israeli regime has become unilateral and actually they have to defend the Jews, but not the vice versa .

It is worth mentioning that approximately 130 thousand Druzian reside in 1948 occupied lands that not only are worried about their own situation, but also are especially worried about the other Syrian Druze living in the village of Hazar. Accordingly, they have asked the Israeli authorities to support them and intervene in favor of the Druzian.

Even they have sought support from Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian National Authority, who had said their relationships with the Syrian regime government have improved. The Zionists who try to satisfy the Druzian population and provide a pretext for intervention in Syria, have taken a seemingly humanitarian view and have voiced their support for the Syrian Druze; they have broadcasted a media propaganda to generate support for their activities.

To the extent that there have been growing speculation on secret agreements between the Israel regime and al-Nusra Front about not attacking this area. It should be noted that al-Nusra Front has killed approximately 20 Druzian in the city of Idlib .

An important point should be noted which has also affected the Zionists' attitude towards the Syrian Druze. Apparently, the Syrian Druze and Hezbollah have organized some forces to liberate the Golan, whose base is located in the village of Hazar. It is said that Samir Kantar, one of the Druzian heroes of Hezbollah, has played a significant role in the formation and training of these forces. The Israeli air force launched several airstrikes against the area, and killed three citizens. To avoid the domestic protest, the Zionist regime declared the air strikes were aimed to stop the activities of the Islamic Jihad .

However, the Syrian Druze have separated their way from the Zionist regime and have declared that they will cooperate with the Syrian military to provide and preserver their own security. In the meantime, a chief of the tribe in the Syrian Druze, Yousef al-Jarbou declaring that the alarm bells have rung for the existence of the Druze, reiterated that the Zionist regime should not intervene in Druzian issue, and we do not need their support; as we can defend ourselves without their help.

Accordingly, it appears that the Zionist regime is pursuing a few basic goals in the Druze issue :

-to provide the security of 1948 occupied lands and to satisfy the Druze of the Occupied Palestinian

- to create a safe zone around the Golan Heights. The location mainly includes the residential areas of the Druze, and the Israeli regime makes effort not to dissatisfy the Syrian Druze. However, Hazar village is resisting the plan .

- to fight back the activities of Hezbollah in Kenitra and to prevent any plan which is aimed at liberation of the Golan and Galilee .

- to make instrumental use of the Druze issue to depict Syria as an anti-human rights government.
