TEHRAN (ISNA)- Deputy Commander of Iranian Army Ground Force General Kiumarth Heidari said the force would start military drills late September or in October.

The (Army) Ground Force�s drill begins late September or in October and would continue until the end of Iranian calendar year (which ends on March 20, 2016), he said.

He further added that the military maneuvers would be mainly staged in border areas and would be attended by all groups of the Ground Force.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

The country has also conducted other major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art army equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
