Senior Lebanese scholar: Nuclear deal political victory

Beirut, Aug 23, IRNA Iran's nuclear agreement with major world powers was a political victory for the Islamic Republic, says Secretary General of World Union of Resistance Ulema.

'The nuclear agreement has altered general attitude of Arab and other countries,' Sheikh Maher Hammoud told IRNA in an exclusive interview recently.
'Now there are negotiations taking place between Syrians and Saudis,' he said, 'Russians and Saudis are also engaged in talks.'
'Such events were not common one or two years ago,' said Sunni Imam of Al-Quds Mosque in the Lebanese Sidon.
Referring to the recent General Assembly of Islamic Resistance Ulema (Scholars) Union in Beirut, Sheikh Maher Hammoud described the event as being on the right path.
'The participation of religious scholars from around the world and their clear stance was an appropriate measure to end the general passiveness and a good step on the right path,' he said.
On Syria, Sheikh Hammoud assessed the conditions as getting improved expressing hope that finally talks and a political solution would bring stability to the country.
'It will take around one year for the issue to be resolved,' Sheikh Hammoud said, referring to Syrian crisis.
He further said that it was too soon to speak about activating a powerful resistance force in the Golan Heights, similar to Lebanon, expressing a rather critical view on the rocket attacks from the region against the Israeli settlements.
'It was an act of resistance, but an ill-advised, uncalculated one, he said of the rocket attacks.
