Negotiator: Iran used Islamic Revolution discourse in nuclear talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi praised the conclusion of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and six world powers, saying that the discourse of the Islamic Revolution helped Iranian negotiators succeed in the talks.

We frequently used the discourse of the Islamic Revolution, which raises (our) spirits and courage, in the talks Takht Ravanchi said in an academic forum in Tehran on Sunday about nuclear negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) and political sciences in Iran.

The nuclear talks may not have been an equal equation in terms of number of (negotiators) and (the two sides) economic and military power. Nonetheless, we expressed our views (in the negotiations) with clarity and strength, he noted.

He further highlighted recent remarks by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, saying that according to the minister, such discourse allowed Iranian negotiators to speak up and express their ideas without fear as they have done over the past 36 years since the Islamic Revolution.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and members of the sextet, particularly the US.

While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be ratified by both Iran's Parliament and the US Congress.
