Boroujerdi: Syrian crisis has no military solution

Tehran, Aug 20, IRNA - Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Ala'eddin Boroujerdi reiterated Tehran's position on the fact that the Syrian crisis has no military solution.

In an exclusive interview with al-Ahed news, Boroujerdi criticized the US and its regional and European allies for favoring the military solution for Syrian crisis and arming its terrorist groups.

He added that the US and its allies' present shift from a military solution to a political one has indicated that 'their military plans have failed.'

'Those in Syria, who are after a peaceful resolution, must respect the rules of democracy and give up the call for removal of President Bashar Al-Assad as he was elecby by the Syrian people.'

The Iranian top official further underscored that 'any solution to this crisis must be a completely a Syrian solution, and the talks must be held between Syrian parties. The fate of this country should not be decided in Geneva or in any other places.'

On the recent visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to Damascus, Boroujerdi said the visit came in the context of strengthening strategic relations between the two countries.

The MP concluded by saying: 'Iran gives special importance to relations with the countries of the region, especially its neighbors and Mr. Zarif's regional visit has taken place within the framework of same policy.'
