Iran missile program entirely defensive: Dehghan

TEHRAN, Aug. 18 (MNA) Iran's Defense Minister stressed that Iran has never been seeking nuclear weapons and its missile program follows defensive approach.

Congratulating on the national day of Defense Industry and the national week of Government, Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan said in a press conference held today morning in the Ministry of Defense that, "Iran has never been looking for nuclear weapons and its missile program is following deterrence purposes."

Destructive power and tactical features of the missiles are of concern to us so that we can stand against enemys electronic warfare, added Dehghan, continuing that, the primary aim has been increasing the range of the missiles which has been accomplished for the case of ballistic missiles.

He underlined the Iranian Aerospace Organization has focused on nearly all types of ballistic missiles, and we have worked on the range of our missiles due to the present threats.

"Referring to UN Security Council Resolution 2231 which put heavy restrictions on Iran, defense minister said some part of this resolution deals with sanctions on Irans missiles and at the same time a statement was issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran stating that it would accept no restrictions in the field of defense.

In the previous resolution it had been requested that Iran should not discuss missile issues which was not carried out and the same request has been repeated in the new resolution although we have never sought nuclear weapons, reiterated Dehghan.
