Tehran, sextet deal doesnt mean following same path: Irans speaker

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Irans Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani affirmed that finalization of a nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) would not imply that the parties are going to adopt the same policies.

These (nuclear) agreements do not mean that the Islamic Republic and the other countries would follow the same path. Instead, we follow our own path and will always defend the oppressed, Larijani said in an address to a meeting of university professors in Mashhad on Monday.

He was referring to a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the major world powers, whose text was finalized in Vienna on July 14.

While many consider the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) a major breakthrough in the improvement of ties between Iran and the West, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has made it clear that Tehrans policy toward the US will remain unchanged regardless of the ultimate fate of the JCPOA.

Addressing Eid al-Fitr prayers in Tehran in July, the Leader underscored that there will be no change in the policy of the Iranian nation and the Islamic Republic establishment toward the US, whatever happens to the text compiled after long and intensive nuclear talks.

We will not hold any negotiation with the US over the bilateral, regional and global issues, unless in exceptional cases, such as the nuclear (talks) that has also happened in the past, the Leader stressed.
