TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) hailed director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano, for resisting pressures for disclosing the confidential data on the agency�s agreements with Tehran.

�Despite strong pressures on Amano, he could protect the (secrecy of) documents (signed with Iran),� Behrouz Kamalvandi told reporters in Tehran on Saturday.

Earlier this month, Amano went to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations to discuss his agency's monitoring role in Iran following finalization of the text of a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

Meanwhile, some members of the US Congress, which is considering whether to approve the deal, had asked that more information be made public relating to the IAEA�s part in verifying Iran's implementation of the pact.

Elsewhere in his comments, Kamalvandi said, �The issue of Iran was a major test for the UN agency, however, nothing was disclosed despite strong pressure from the US Congress.�

He also noted that Iran has provided the necessary documents to the IAEA over its nuclear program under a roadmap for the clarification of past and present outstanding issues.

Back on July 14, Iran and the IAEA signed a roadmap to clarify the outstanding past and present issues regarding Tehran�s nuclear program. According to the document, the IAEA will review the information given by Iran by 15 September 2015, and will submit to Iran questions on any possible ambiguities regarding such information.

The IAEA confirmed on Saturday that Iran has given the UN nuclear body the information regarding its past nuclear activities.

"Iran today provided the IAEA with its explanation in writing and related documents as agreed in the roadmap for the clarification of past and present outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear program," the IAEA said in a statement on Saturday, confirming that Iran had met a deadline.

The IAEA announced in a Saturday press release that it has received documents from Iran as part of the roadmap.
