No Reference to military, missile issues in JCPOA: Irans Zarif

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted Tehrans success in safeguarding its red lines in nuclear talks with major world powers, noting that the finalized text of a lasting nuclear deal makes no mention of Irans missile program or military equipment.

Defending a July 14 document finalized by Iran and six world powers that he helped to negotiate, Zarif praised the Iranian diplomats great success to prevent the countrys redlines from being undermined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The issue of (Irans) missiles and weapons are excluded from our deal. You see no hint about weapons or missiles in the JCPOA. Those are our red lines, the top Iranian diplomat said in an interview with Diplomat monthly.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 finalized the text of a lasting nuclear agreement, dubbed the JCPOA, in Vienna, Austria.

Afterwards, the 15-memebr United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that endorsed the JCPOA.

The 159-page document has subjected Iran and the six other countries to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehrans nuclear program during a defined period of time.

According to the UNSC Resolution 2231, all previous UNSC sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program will be terminated when the JCPOA takes effect.
