JCPOA for global community to develop Iran nuclear program

Tehran, August 16, IRNA - A senior member of the Iranian nuclear negotiating team said on Sunday the deal reached with the world powers last July in Vienna has provided for international cooperation to help Iran's peaceful nuclear program forward.

'We only accepted limitation in enrichment (activities), but did not allow anybody to pass comments on the principle of the enrichment right,' Deputy Foreign Minister for American and European Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi told a parliemantary hearing.

Speaking at the Article 90 Commission of Majlis, he briefed members about the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) context and annexes and stressed the cooperation between executive and legilative powers in the case of nuclear program.

Prior to the recent round of negotiations in 2013, he added, Iran was under six UN Security Council resolutions and was introduced as a so-called threat to peace and security which demanded total suspension of our enrichment activities.

During the talks, the US side was insisting that Iran's enrichment facilities in Fordo and Natanz and Arak heavy-water reactor should shut down, he said.

'The resilience of past years nullified the previous UNSC resolutions so that Iran's nuclear program was recognized to be legitimate and to be helped for its development.'

Ravanchi also informed MPs of plans for exchange of nuclear fuel with Russia, and the move toward commercialization of Iran's nuclear program under the JCPOA.
