Iraq requires unity to thwart enemy's plots: Jahangiri

Tehran, August 16, IRNA - Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maleki conferred on Sunday with Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri on issues of mutual concern as well as regional developments.

In the meeting, Jahangiri referred to escalation of major plots in Iraq and said to thwart such conspiracies, the people should forge unity.
'I am confident that the Iraqi government and people will overcome current problems and will pass such tough time with success,' Jahangiri said.

Security mainly the issue of Daesh Takfiri terrorist group is among main concerns in Iraq, and all should spare no efforts to maintain the country's territorial integrity and national unity, he added.

Referring to the allegations made by some western officials on disintegration of Iraq, Jahangiri said the Iraqi officials and political groups in the country should seriously deal with such allegations.

He called for conduct of comprehensive political reforms in Iraq and fight with Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

There is no doubt that the Iraqi government and nation will overcome problems, Jahangiri said adding that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always backed the Iraqi government and nation and the fact has been underlined by the Iranian officials as well as its Supreme Leader.

Referring to current developments in Syria, regional developments and issues in Iraq, Jahangiri said expansion of Tehran-Baghdad cooperation and coordination will lead to resolution of the Syrian crisis.

Iraqi ulema play a leading role in resolving issues in Iraq, Jahangiri underlined.

Iran with good experiences in oil, gas, petrochemical and other related industries can put its invaluable experiences in these fields at the disposal of Iraqi nation, he said.

After lifting of sanctions, grounds for expansion of economic and financial cooperation between the two counties will be well prepared, Jahangiri said.

Presently, the Iraqi government and nation are experiencing a very tough time, and their politicians shoulder a dire responsibility and they should do their utmost to protect the country's territorial integrity, he said.

The Iraqi vice president expressed satisfaction over nuclear deal between Iran and G5+1 and said there is no doubt that all Muslims in various parts of the world are now happy and this has bothered enemies of Islam.

He called for much active role of Iranian companies for investment in Iraq and said some foreign countries have taken action to this end, but we wish the Iranian companies to take a lead in the era of investment in Iraq.

One of the main obstacles in fight with Daesh terrorist group is the financial and logistics support rendered to them by aliens, he said.

They prefer segregation of Iraq in the fight with Daesh Takfiri terrorist groups, said the Iraqi vice president.

The Iraqi vice president also thanked the support made by the Islamic Republic of Iran to Iraqi government and nation and said history is a good witness of the noble stands taken by Tehran in dealing with Iraq and Syria.

'We are all optimistic to attain triumph despite of many problems and shortcomings,' said the Iraqi vice president.
