Iran supports fair settlement of Yemen crisis in Muscat talks

Tehran, August 14, IRNA Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Friday underlined the need for halting aggression on Yemen and focusing on political solutions, saying Iran supports a fair settlement to Yemeni crisis in Muscat talks.

In a phone conversation with UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed, Amir-Abdolahian discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the UN plan for establishment of ceasefire and starting political dialogue between warring groups in the country.

Amir-Abdollahian underlined the need for an immediate lifting of the human siege in Yemen and the stoppage of foreign invasion on the country which has caused destruction of infrastructure and killing and injuring thousands of innocent people in Yemen.

The deputy foreign minister appreciated the constructive efforts of the UN secretary general and his envoy for Yemen, calling for a more active contribution of the United Nations to restore peace in the tiny Arab country.

The UN envoy, for his part, appreciated Iran's efforts to help find a settlement to the Yemeni crisis.

Sheikh Ahmed briefed the deputy foreign minister on his meetings in Muscat with representatives from Ansarallah and Yemen's resigned government and said Muscat talks were progressive and all the parties want a negotiated solution to the crisis in the country.

He said a political agreement has been outlined and the Yemeni political groups are due to offer their viewpoint on a draft. He hoped that the draft agreement will be agreed upon by all parties.
